About Tax File Numbers

What's a TFN?

A Tax File Number or TFN is your personal reference number for tax and superannuation.
Your TFN is yours for life, even if you change jobs or go overseas. It is important to keep this number saved in a secure place.

Why is it important?

While it is not compulsory to have a TFN, one of the most important benefit is that it ensures that you are not paying more tax than you need to.
Adding your TFN to your super account also allows you to:
  • Find lost and other super funds
  • Combine lost and other super funds into one account
  • Make personal contributions
You can add your TFN to your Cruelty Free Super account after you log in. If you have any issues, contact our Member Services Team for help.

How do I apply for a TFN?

It’s free to apply for a TFN. The ATO website has information on how you can apply depending on your residency. It generally takes 28 days after the ATO processes your application to receive your TFN.

Where can I find my TFN?

  • Check your previous payment summaries from your employer
  • Check your old income tax returns
  • Login to your myGov account
  • Ask your accountant
Or call the ATO, they will be able to assist you in locating your TFN.
By providing your TFN, you give Professional Superannuation Management Pty Ltd, the Trustee and the Fund Administrator permission to use your TFN for superannuation purposes, which includes creating and administering your account, searching for lost, active or inactive super accounts in your name, and actioning your rollover requests.
It's not compulsory to tell us your TFN, however if you don't do so your before-tax contributions and withdrawals are taxed at a higher rate, we can't accept after-tax contributions from you, and we will not be able to help you find your existing and lost super.
